opt: option contract scanner

opt is the ConvexValue Terminal app that ranks single option contracts. It is a live table with one row per contract, ordered by the column you choose (premium traded, volume, open interest, a greek) and narrowed down with filters.

How to use opt

opt [param=value ...]
opt

opt takes no symbol: it scans every contract, or the contracts of one underlying with root=. Type the command in the command bar of a pane, or set the same parameters in the control panel (the ⚙️ at the right of the bar). In a browser, the app opens at convexvalue.com/go/opt/.

Parameters

Parameter Values Default What it does
cols Options parameters, separated by commas value, price, change The columns of the table, after the contract's symbol.
orderby One options parameter value The column that ranks the rows.
root An underlying symbol none Keeps the contracts of that underlying.
limit A whole number 50 How many rows to show.
asc t or f f asc puts the smallest value first. Without it the largest is first.
filters Conditions, separated by commas: column>number, column<number, column=number none Keeps the rows that meet every condition.
s Contract symbols, separated by commas none Rows that stay on top, whatever the order and the filters.

The columns are the Options Parameters of the Data Parameters page. The control panel lists them too.

Examples

opt

The default: contracts ranked by value, the premium traded today, with the contract's price and change.

opt root=NVDA

The same ranking for the contracts of one underlying.

opt orderby=volm cols=volm,oi,price,volatility,delta

The most traded contracts by volume, with open interest, last price, implied volatility and delta.

opt root=SPY orderby=volm cols=volm,oi,price,delta filters=volm>1000,delta>0,delta<0.3

SPY contracts with a delta between 0 and 0.3 and more than 1,000 contracts traded.

opt orderby=oi_ch cols=oi,oi_ch,volm,price

The contracts whose open interest grew the most.

opt orderby=value_5m cols=value_5m,volm_5m,price

The contracts with the most premium traded in the last 5 minutes.

How to read it

  • Each row is one contract. The first column is its rank, the second its symbol, then your columns in the order of cols.
  • value is the premium traded in the contract today and volm the number of contracts. With _buy or _sell, only the trades where the buyer or the seller was the aggressor.
  • oi is open interest and oi_ch its change. volm_5m, value_5m and the _15m, _30m, _60m columns count the last minutes only.
  • A filter compares one column with a number. Two conditions on the same column make a range: delta>0,delta<0.3.
  • The cells update as trades and quotes arrive. The ranking itself is drawn again every 10 seconds.
  • flow: the same kind of ranking for stocks.
  • tas: the single trades of a contract or an underlying.
  • joy: one parameter across the whole chain of a symbol.
